Game Reports

Janelle Hansen Realty 22  Thunderbird Auto 21

Jeffs take: What a day at the Field of Dreams for the Red League! One really had to be there to see what happened as the six teams went toe to toe in the three games like a heavyweight boxing match. All six teams were ready to rumble!  Let’s start with the Janelle Hansen Realty One team taking on the once defeated Thunderbird Automotive men. JHRO won rounds 2,3 while Thunderbird took rounds 4 and 6. Round one and five were ties and after 6, the judges had the bout at TBird 19-17. The automotive group  padded their lead by two going into the bottom of the seventh. The JHRO team came out fighting with a new energy. Single single, out, single, single , single, single, sac fly, intentional walk and walk off single. Everyone on the team had at least two hits with Becker, JD Dilree (not Vance),  and sub Nelson contributing 4 hits while Coleman and sub  Fusaro had 5 hits each. Our defense was challenged by the sun and high sky but Fusaro made a great catch in the seventh and Don Ranieri had two assists from right center field. Thanks to the umpires (Jerry Lubeck and Dave Lawrence) and the scoreboard operator.  The ringside judges had JHRO 22, Thunderbird Automotive 21.  It was a good day to be the home team as you will find out in the other two game summaries. Congratulations to all six  teams on putting on quite a show today.

Robs take:  A tip of the cap to all 20 players who produced an exciting game along with great sportsmanship.   After a couple of walk-off wins last week, I guess it was the T-Birds turn to take one in the nuts this fine Thursday afternoon.   Despite the loss, we had tremendous offensive production throughout the match.   Zuker and Allseitz had 5 hits each.    Ken, Matt and Randy had 4 hits, while Rob, Bruce and Roger notched hat tricks.   Thanks to Brian Combs for subbing for JC, and to Roger Williamson who subbed for Ralph Hollis.  Kudos to Jerry, Dave L and Gary A for handling the administrative duties.

Ranalls Realty 16    Camino Del Sol Chapel  14

Erics take:   Ranalls Realty pulled out a win today Against Camino Del Sol. It was a tight game throughout, John Nicodemo started off the 2nd inning with a right field line RBI double to start a 3 run inning. After 4 innings Ranalls had an 8-2 lead, only to see Camino score 5 runs in the top of the 5th. Camino scored 4 more runs in the top of the 7th to take a 14-13 lead, thanks to Ted Schnieder’s great double play at 3rd, and Dave Elkin’s awesome pitching to keep it to a 1 run deficit. Bottom of the 7th down by one run Troy Macqueen hit a bomb to walk off the win with a 3 run blast. Ranalls Reality collected 30 hits on their 16 runs. Four hits each, Kenny Shick, Mike Hirsch, Troy Macqueen, Matt Seelinger and Tom Rinehart. With 3 hits Pete Semenak,  coach Pete is 1-0 with the absence of Eric, great job Pete. Thank you Matt for subbing and also Vern for a last minute sub.

Jerrys take: It was another close game for Camino Del Sol Chapel, but another game that saw our opponent scoring just enough in the seventh inning to take the victory. This time it was Ranall’s Realty, coached by Pete Semenak with moral support from Eric Swobody, who earned the win 15 to 14. Another slow start for the Camino’s offense hampered our efforts. Camino only scored two runs through the first four innings, and scoring 5 runs in the 5 th , 3 in the 6 th and 4 in the 7 th just wasn’t quite enough. Several of the Camino players did have a good day at the plate including Dale Halder (4 for 4 plus a walk), Mike “Moon Dog” Anderson (3 for 4 with 2 doubles), Lloyd Newlands (3 for 5), Eric Shouse (3 for 5) and Craig Nelson’s day included a 3 run home run. Thanks to Dave Zuker who umpired behind the plate, Bruce Lowe for officiating the bases and Brad Brulotte for handling the scoreboard duties.

Implant Periodontics 21   Angelas Kitchen 21

Jamies take: Another barn-burner for the "Thirsty Thursday" finale (all 3 were bottom of the 7th great games), Implant Periodontics scored 6 in the bottom to tie a hard-hitting Angelas crew, 21-21. It was Scott Kibby's 2nd dinger of the day, a grand salami, that definitely set the table for us. And his 7 RBI's kinda helped as well. Angelas held the lead for the entire game, but IP was able to keep them off the scoreboard in the top of the 7th, so we got our engines started and scored 6 runs. Tie game, which was well deserved by both teams. It was a highlight reel day for the hitters, but also some amazing catches in the OF with the sun setting in the west. IP scorched out 35 hits (I'm sure Angelas did as well): 6 hits each by Joe Guzzo (super sub for Roger), which also included a HR, 3 doubles and 6 RBI's, and Joel Breiner (also hit a tape measure shot in the 7th, but it was our 4th HR, so it didn't count). Previously mentioned, Scott K had 5 hits, Dave F, John B and Jamie each had 4 hits. Lloyd Newlands (super sub for Ralph Mc) contributed a couple hits, and, along with Terry G in the sun field, managed some run-saving catches under very tough conditions. A fitting end to a great game. And, like we say when the Thursday games are over: 'Lets go do what we do best"!! Socialize...  Thanks to Moon Dog and ZZ for a fine job officiating, and Eric in the press box.

Johns take: Weather starting to warm up at The Grand and so is the hitting. Both teams battled hard and the outcome was a 21 to 21 draw. Angela's held the lead the entire game until the last inning. In the bottom of the penultimate (*) inning, Implant scored 2 and in the last inning they plated 5 while holding Angela's scoreless. Angela's hit for a nice .659 with 1 home run and 7 doubles. Brad Brulotte was perfect from the plate with 1 double. Also perfect was Vern Mclean with 2 doubles. Jeff Nickerson had 4 hits with double and Garry Weslosky had 4 hits as well. Glenn Soles chipped in with a hit and a couple of walks. Mike Martin had 3 hits including a home run and a double. John Boland had 2 hits with a double and Greg Kastelic had 2 hits. Brian Combs also had a couple of hits. Les Zirbel chipped in with a hit which was for a double. Mike Martin made some phenomenal catches in right center field which is where the sun was a problem. Nice game for both Angela's and Implant.

(*) Editor did spell check.  It is an actual word.
